Se encuentra en la Comarca de Ulloa dentro del ayuntamiento de Palas de Rei, en la provincia de Lugo. Podremos dejar nuestro coche en el aparcamiento gratuito del castillo de Pambre.
Se trata de una fortaleza construida en el siglo XIV sobre un abrupto peñasco, que logró sobrevivir a la Revuelta Irmandiña, una revolución contra una situación social de opresión, abuso y miseria que tuvo lugar en Galicia entre 1467 y 1469, y que posiblemente fue la mayor de todo el siglo XV.
Tiene un gran valor arquitectónico, ya que se trata de uno de los pocos ejemplos de arquitectura militar gallega de la Edad Media en conservación.
